CAMRA Champion Beer of Wales announced!

Today, at the Great Welsh Beer & Cider Festival (Friday June 11th), a panel
of expert judges had the difficult task of choosing the best beer in Wales.
The top 3 beers, announced by Jeff Cuthbert, AM (Caerphilly), were:
Gold - Otley, O-Garden (Pontypridd)
Silver - Bragdy'r Nant, Mwnci Nel (Llanwrst)
Bronze - Rhymney, Export (Merthyr Tydfil)
Category winners:
Mild - Bryncelyn, Buddy Marvellous (Ystradgynlais)
Bitter - Bryncelyn, Holly Hop (Ystradgynlais)
Best Bitter - Breconshire, Cribyn (Brecon)
Strong Bitter - Rhymney, Export (Merthyr Tydfil)
Golden Ale - Great Orme, Celtica (Colwyn Bay)
Speciality - Otley, O-Garden (Pontypridd)
The Great Welsh Beer and Cider Festival runs until Saturday June 12th,
and is taking place at the Cardiff International Arena.

The Gamekeeper in St Asaph is due to reopen on 2.12.2009 as The Bridge
The Boar's Head in Holywell has reopened and stocks two cask beers (Marston Range)
The Crooked Horn in Brynford has reopened, stocking at least one cask beer (Facers)
The Mason's Arms in Denbigh has reopened; further details to follow
The Cross Foxes in Prestatyn is about to undergo a change of Licensee (Marstons)
Also in Prestatym, The Royal Victoria starting to build up trade with up to 3 guest beers
The Llyn y Mawn in Brynford has likewise undergone a recent change of Licensee

The Piccadilly, Caerwys is now open as free house,
The White Horse, Hendrewydd has reopened at least one real ale available.
The Gold Caoe, Mold is to offer take-out containers at its next beer festival; usual CAMRA members' discounts will continue to apply,
Crooked Horn, Brynford has reopened,
Mold Rugby Club serves cask Ale.
Outside branch area news: Jack Hanby is brewing on the Plassey Plant since leaving Wem.

The Raven, Llanarmon-yn-Ial reopened on Saturday 29th August.
The Masons, Denbigh is closed and boarded up with For Sale signs.
The Bull Denbigh is closed but there are ongoing developments.
The Gronant Inn is under new management.

Facer's have employed an additional member of staff.
The Raven, Llananrmon yn Ial: Contact has been made with the Branch concerning a possible local purchase arrangement as this amenity is closed at present; the Branch will be represented at a public meeting scheduled for May 29th 2009 in the adjacent village hall.

The Bagillt Arms, is believed to have been sold for redevelopment as residential flats.
Northop Hall Cricket Club now sell cask beers; Facers beer has been supplied.
The Red Lion, Llanasa, is on the market as a freehold sale.
The Crown Bard, Rhyl now has 3 cask beers on sale including products from the Sandstone portfolio. Further plans to develop cask beer sales still further are under review.
